Zenyatta and Secretariat

If Zenyatta is the Queen of Racing, then the King, according to most people, is definitely Secretariat. Zenyatta is a horse that many compare to Secretariat. There are people who see Zenyatta in action and wish that they would have seen Secretariat in the same way. There are also those who feel that one would smoke the other had the two horses been racing during the same years. The truth is; Zenyatta is now what Secretariat was in history.

Zenyatta

This beautiful horse is a retired American champion who won 19 consecutive races out of her 20 race career. The horse’s owners are Jerry and Ann Moss. She was trained by John Shirreffs and jockeyed by Mike Smith for 17 of the 20 race starts. This is part of the reason Zenyatta was inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame on April 25, 2016.

Zenyatta is most known for her closing finishes where she would overtake other race horses within the final stretch. This is impressive for any thoroughbred horse that weighs in at 1,217 pounds and stands 17.2 hands at the withers.

Secretariat

This beautiful horse became the first Triple Crown winner in 25 years, in 1973. He beat the second-place horse by a field of 31 lengths and it is considered still to be one of the best races of all time. It is said that he could out distance any horse that he ran with.

This horse was impressively sized and many considered him to be massive. He stood 16.2 hands when he was fully grown and his stride was nearly perfect in every way. If anything, it was a stride that was actually larger than most people expected; even if they considered his large size.
